The Morning Sitting – An Exercise in the Gurdjieff Tradition



This is a good morning exercise that can help us to accumulate the energy that will enable us to become more conscious for the rest of the day.

Mr. Gurdjieff said that conscious breathing and absorbing the higher active elements in the air – when done properly – can be the equivalent of a month’s inner work.

Most of this is derived from “Preparation 6” by George Gurdjieff’s student George Adie. Some of it comes from “Gurdjieff’s Early Talks 1914-1931 (Exercise 1939 on page 413). And some from the transcripts of Mr. Gurdjieff’s Paris/Wartime Meetings (the uncensored version of “Meeting Twenty-Nine, Thursday, 3 August 1944 on “The Collected State”).
